Captain to Ref:  “Can my coach get in trouble for thinking?”

Ref to Captain:  “No”

Captain to Ref:  “Good!  Because he thinks you are horrible”

The puck is in the attacking zone. The blue line is part of:

Question: Can a player precede the puck across the blue line into the attacking zone and be considered on-side?

Answer: Yes.  As long as the player is actually propelling and in possession and control of the puck at the time he enters the zone.

Question: Can a goalie play with a broken stick?

Answer: No.  No player can play with a broken stick.  Additionally, the goalie cannot go to the bench during a stoppage of play for a replacement stick.  They must receive the replacement from a teammate.

Question: Now that checking has been removed from the Pee Wee division, are mouthpieces required?

Answer:  Yes.  For the first violation a warning is issued to the team.  A misconduct (10 Minute) penalty shall be assessed for a subsequent violation.  Locally PAHL teams (all divisions) are required to wear one.

Question: Can 2 Pee Wee teams play a game with Tag-up off-sides if both teams agree prior to the start of the game?

Answer:  No.  USA Hockey rules supersede any on-ice decisions.  Tag-up off-sides begins at the bantam level.

Question: What is the only penalty in USA Hockey that allows for a double minor?

Answer:  Roughing.  The reason for this is to allow the referees latitude in assessing the more aggressive actions of one player toward the other.  Any action that is worthy of a major must be assessed as Fighting.

Question: In what zone may a hand pass be made legally?

Answer:  The defensive zone is the only zone in which a hand pass can legally be made.
