Six Players Named to NAPHL All-Academic Teams

The Esmark Stars had three players from both its 16U and 18U teams selected by the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) for the league's All-Academic Teams for the 2014-15 season.

To qualify for the All-NAPHL Academic Team, student-athletes must have achieved high academic standards for the 2014-15 school year. Players recognized per team was capped at three and final selection was made by the league from players nominated by their respective teams.

Esmark Stars selected to the NAPHL All-Academic 16U team, included: Ben Friedland, Fox Chapel High School; Max Milan, Baldwin High School; and Alex Singley, Latrobe High School.

Selected to the NAPHL All-Academic 18U team from the Stars 18U squad were a trio from Peters Township High School: Adam Alavi, Sam Barnes, and Carter Ekberg.

“The NAPHL and its member teams have continued to raise the standard of excellence and competition and this year was no exception,” said NAHL Commissioner and President Mark Frankenfeld.  “The players that we recognized have worked long and hard to achieve excellence and recognition both on and off the ice.

While the maximum number of players to be awarded per team was capped at three players per team, Esmark nominated  several more players at each level.

"I am proud of the fact that we was able to nominate so many players for recognition for this award," said Esmark program director Dave Kosick. "All of our nominated players have achieved in the classroom. This included several players who are carrying a 4.0 GPA or higher."
