Former Esmark Stars Forward Honored

Veteran Fairbanks Ice Dogs forward Jacob Hetz, 20, was named the North American Hockey League’s (NAHL) Midwest Division Star of the Week after Fairbanks completed a home sweep of the Minnesota Magicians to maintain their comfortable lead atop the Midwest Division.

Hetz, a native of Pittsburgh, PA, and former member of the Esmark Stars of the NAPHL, totaled six points in the two wins.

In the opener of the two game series, a 7-2 win, Hetz had a goal and two assists. In game two, a 4-2 win, he banged in two goals and assisted on another goal. For the weekend he finished with a +3 ranking.

Hetz’s 15 goals has him tied for the lead in goals in the NAHL, while his 29 points (15 G, 14 A) has him tied for third in league scoring.

“Jacob played with great leadership over the weekend. He went to the hard areas of the ice and committed to winning battles,” said Fairbanks head coach Trevor Stewart.

Hetz skated for the Esmark Stars U18 AAA team during the 2011-12 season. He tallied 76 points (36 G, 40 A) in 75 games that season and led the Stars to the Championship game of the Mid-American District Playoffs.  He tendered with Fairbanks during the 11-12 season and has spent the past three seasons with the Ice Dogs.
